21st of August 2012 & Another Hero

It is a Tuesday, the last day of the long weekend. Today marks the 29th death anniversary of Ninoy. The man needs no introduction, every Filipino needs to know who he is, what he endured for the nation and his patriotic attributions which eventually paved the way for restoration of democracy. He is a HERO!

Today, after days that seemed like years to the family I am sure, of Search and Rescue (S & R) operations, Sec. Jesse Robredo's body was recovered roughly 180 feet under the sea. How it must be hard for DOTC Sec. Mar Roxas to break the news to the media, a lump formed in his throat and I cried freely. Thank you for the help of the foreign technical divers who have found the plane and pulled the secretary's remains out of it. May the retrieval of the two pilots occur immediately too. I tell every now and then during conversations regarding Robredo's S & R, I wish that whatever it may be, the bodies should be found. A outward sign to ascertain the difficult truth is needed for a closure, though it wouldn't make it any less painful.

Reading Aika Robredo's piece about his father 15 years past, further strengthened my admiration for the DILG head. Find time to read it on rappler.com. By this time, all of us are aware, the reason Sec. Jesse flew on a private plane headed to Naga City was to witness his child's awarding ceremony.  He could have opted for a commercial plane yet he did not want to be late for a child's achievement highlight. He's one perfect example of a father who makes no compromises in fulfilling his responsibilities to the family. Oh, the man has time to tutor the daughters.

I know of a few memorable anecdotes about Sec. Robredo because one of my best friends happen to work under his department. This friend of mine has never been  as busy as she is now with Sec. Jesse at the helm of DILG. Seminars there, conferences here, programs now, strategic planning and implementation later. Out of fatigue, Kei would simply blurt out, " Hay, minsan, ena ku ata bisa keng daang matuwid." Nonetheless, she and her colleagues are inspired to do more and contribute better as they see the dedication and passion of their Sec. Jess to make a change for the goodness of local government units. Kei shares the the humility and simplicity she sees in Robredo, a rare treat for public officials. I can't disclose here one funny story about this respected servant, but I asked Kei soon after if I could apply as Robredo's personal stylist, minimum of charge. Now that wish of mine has to wait in another time and place.

You know that feeling when something untoward happens to someone you have not even met  and you become deeply affected?  Analyn my cousin came to house few days ago, "Sagli, Chelle, masyadu kung affected kang Robredo."  Sha and I exchange texts about updates on the S & R. I get anxious every time I open my Twitter account as the detailed events of the rescue operations appear. I feel for the family, their grief and fear may be truly beyond comprehension. That's how Sec. Jesse's untimely demise is, you can't help but wonder with the unexpected and inevitable sequences of one's existence. It leaves a blank mark in a corner of emotion.

Today, Sec. Jesse Robredo's body's found.I may sound weird on this, but I am happy for his family, they get to have the gift to kiss and embrace him one last time, his literal presence I hope somehow will be a start of acceptance to this bitter event in their lives.  Let us pray for the family's healing please. Pardon me, to see his wife wearing red lipstick makes me conclude they will do well. Trust me it is one sign of strength amidst the most trying time.

I would like to honor this dignified and brilliant man by posting some tweets of personalities who have had the chance to know him and work closely with him. Thank you po, Sec. Jesse for making a difference in our country, thank you for making us know there's hope in our land. Mabuhay po kayo!! May you continue to inspire us here on earth. Enjoy the beauty of heaven.

Bingeing in Boracay

The island of Boracay offers an array of food variants in its corners. There are restaurants that serve buffet lunch and dinner at budget-friendly terms. Hoppers opting for fine and exquisite meal experience will not be disappointed as there are places for their satisfaction.

Lunch at Army Navy

Foodie for a happy belly.

Batchoy prior to departure.
I had my share of buffet breakfast and dinner in Boracay. For a girl who thinks of the next meal to eat while still munching on the present food on her plate, it really is hardly possible to achieve a tiny waistline. Anyhow, what mattered was I get to have a happy tummy.:)

Beach with the Beauties 1

Time I spend in the beach makes me experience how wonderful it is to have and hold life's simple pleasures. It becomes more special when the place I come to is Boracay. The minute my feet touch the powdery white sand, I already dream of when I can return.

I flew to Aklan along with my kid friends, my BS Nursing buddies actually for a 3-day respite in Boracay(the island people discourage the use of "Bora")on a rainy July.July, as it was the holiday break of some of these girls from their work in foreign cities.

Waiting for the oyster ferry to bring us to Caticlan.

The seats are nice. The ferry is clean. The air conditioner and enclosed space made us dizzy though. I prefer the old-fashioned open ferry boats.

Yayyyy!!We're set on white sand and about to have lunch attack.

I felt secured because my hotel balcony was directly across this police station.

@ Epic Bar for a night of drinks and music.

The beautiful evenings of Boracay are spiked with music of all kinds which offer tourists and island lovers several choices. There's acoustic in one bar, rock 'n roll few yards away, techno in the next.

With Tei,Joie and Dudz.

Epic's pina colada is the best. For many years, Manor(Baguio) 's version held the crown.I award it now to this bar in Aklan.

The music and manner of service in Epic is very similar with Republic in Resorts World. I wondered if they share the same management. The DJs played funky, house and pop music.

Sexy Joie and Dudz. These girls were my roommates.

Thank God for the SUN. I dreamed when it made its presence felt by all the beachgoers.
As we were in the best summer place on a rainy season, the highlight of my recent trip in the island was the bright appearance of the sun on a Saturday morning. I jumped and ran to the pristine powdery sand and did "body scrub." :) Almost everyone took advantage of the sunshine, it was a joy to bask in the clear water with strong waves at that.

What were we thinking here, Dudz? Our next activity or a place where to eat next?

Dudes was the designated "activity coordinator" of the group for this trip. I easily glided through each day with no fixed agenda, go where the wind blows as they say. This was easier said than done as we reached the Zorb Park. It crossed my mind to retreat from the ride, never mind if Kris was able to do it.Oh well, for the experience!

This park was made popular by Ate Kris when she tried it for a reality episode of KrisTV.

Woohhaa!! Let's see if I can do this.

Zorb partners.

My Zorb mate.

A nervous smile.

Good luck to us!!!!

Here goes a short footage of sorbing. The actual ride lasted for about 15 seconds. After the anxiety and slight fear, all we said after was , Bitinnnnnn!!! Try it on your next visit to Boracay.:)

As a manner of tradition, I wanted to have a photo with Bishop Mallari. However, the Nueva Ecija lay were very excited to welcome him in their diocese, they hovered around him nonstop. Missed chance on my part. Anyway, I already have my shares in the past.:)

I woke early, drove in the dark and travelled far to witness this significant day in the life of a holy man, Bishop Roberto Mallari. As I said, all for the love and gratitude to my former boss.

May God continue to bless Bishop Bobet. He is one humble and compassionate child of Him.
