Chief Justice(CJ) Renato Corona often reiterates that his trial is an assault on the independence of judiciary. I beg to disagree. The impeachment as far as what I comprehend is focused on allegations directed only on him (his SALN) and not to the entirety of the judiciary. Back in my secondary years, I learned of executive, legislative and judiciary branches as independent of one another. If a former president(Erap) was placed under trial, so can a Supreme Court CJ or even the current president, given ample allegation's evidences. No one is untouchable in this democratic country.
On Babe Romualdez's column yesterday on The Philippine Star entitled Impeachment: What is at Stake, he couldn't write it any better. "That at the end of it all, what is ultimately at stake here is our political maturity as a nation- whether we are in fact a nation that follows the democratic process and the rule of law- not always turning to mob rule." Truth to tell, I won't give my vote for additional People Powers unless Martial Law would be declared.
I have certain wishes on the Impeachment trial:
- That both the prosecution and defense panels will remain true to form on objective presentations of their evidences and statements and no personal mudslinging will occur.
- That our senator-judges perform their duties carefully and without biases.May they remain impartial throughout the trial. That they will decide on this very important matter with veracity, justice, and most important,"kapakanan ng taong bayan" in their minds and hearts.May they all be guided by the Holy Spirit in verdict-decision.
- That the impeachment process will see its designated finish line for a formal verdict and closure.
- That whatever the verdict may be,Noy,Corona, the lawyers, and all Filipinos will respect it.
- That while the trial is taking its course, all our leaders in the 3 branches of the government shall not fail on their duties to attend to numerous problems of the country eg., illegal mining, landslide and typhoon victims, fuel price hike, unemployment, health problems.
- On a personal thought, I pray for peace of mind for Corona's and PNoy's families. I am trying very hard here to be impartial but my love and fanaticism for Kris and her fam stays strong. I know the family will wish for conviction here. So this afternoon, while Mamang is patiently waiting for the TV coverage, I blurted, "Sana di na lang nag-president si Noy,nakaka-stress talaga!!!"
